Fort Sullivan Chapter, NSDAR

 

   Service to Veterans

     Fort Sullivan Chapter, members are actively involved in supporting the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital throughout the year with collections of various items such as gift cards, books, clothing, toiletries and household items. 

 

    National Defense

    National Defense Committee organizes support activities for active duty military.  This includes collections for care packages, sending cards, games, pillowcases, and more to the troops.  Awards Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) bronze medals to outstanding JROTC cadets. A Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) cadet is awarded a gold medal.

 

   Commemorative Events

   Fort Sullivan Chapter, NSDAR, participates various activities around the Charleston area:

  • Veterans Day Parade
  • Carolina Day
  • Wreath laying at Francis Marion Memorial Day Service
  • Flag distribution at The Old Exchange Building on the Fourth of July public reading of the Declaration of Independence
  • Flag placing on veterans' burial sites on Memorial Day
  • Volunteering at Wreaths Across America at Beaufort National Cemetery

                     

    Service to America

     Last year our members reported over 4,974 hours of volunteer work!

    The Fort Sullivan Chapter, NSDAR, has an amazing membership made up of women who have served in the community in the following capacity: 

  • Serving meals with the disaster relief teams to disaster-stricken areas
  • Volunteering with handicapped veterans' golf events
  • Making therapy items for special needs children
  • Scout leaders

  • Sponsored Braille Flag installation at Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Hospital
  • Sponsored interactive pedestal at The Old Exchange Building
  • Sponsored historical markers at Charleston Tea Garden and Fort Sumter National Park
  • Sponsored libraries on board the USS Ralph H. Johnson and the USS Charleston
  • Supports activities of The Old Exchange Building in Charleston, South Carolina
  • Created scrub caps for healthcare workers
  • Presented Quilt of Valor to a deserving veteran
  • Sponsored the recipient of the SCSSDAR Medal of Honor Award

National Society DAR

  • Restoring and maintaining historic sites
  • Preserving historical records and artifacts
  • Locating, restoring and marking Revolutionary War Patriot grave sites and headstones
  • Supporting schools, awarding scholarships, and recognizing outstanding students and teachers throughout the country
  • Promoting education and citizenship through youth programs
  • Sponsoring American History essay contest for students
  • Sponsoring Outstanding Teacher of American History
  • Volunteering to assist military veterans
  • Supporting America's active duty troops through a viarety of programs
  • Sponsoring special programs that promotes the Constitution
  • Participates in Naturalization Ceremonies where we congratulate new citizens
